Float glass, being the seed product of all glass products, can be used to produce a wide range of glass products. There are many thicknesses, colors, and sizes that can be made so that they can be used in a wide range of architectural and consumer projects and needs.

To get the look you want, clear float glass can be processed in a number of ways, including insulating, glazing, laminating, thermal toughening, silk-screen printing, sandblasting, bending, and acid-etching.

Float glass is distinguished by its somewhat greenish hue. This varies in strength depending on thickness and viewing angle, with the green hue on the edges being particularly noticeable. This is due to the percentage of iron oxides in the glass bulk.

“Ultra-clear glass” or “Optical glass” glass seems even more translucent and shimmers a brighter turquoise. This might be a good idea, especially if you have glass furniture. Most aquariums are made of Ultra-clear glass.

Float glass cannot always be trusted to fuse to other float glass unless it is from the same original sheet, but this is true of any glass that has not been carefully proven to be fuse compatible. It does not, however, imply that it will not fuse reliably. It merely implies that you can’t be sure it’ll work.

Before the float technique, plate glass was created by grinding big “plates” or ribbons of roughly formed glass until they became clear. As a result, while not all plate glass is float glass, all float glass is plate glass.

• Clear Glass:

Clear float glass is annealed glass that is clear and transparent. Clear float glass typically has a greenish tinge or color. When you look through it, it gives a clear view of objects. Clear float glass allows 90% of the sun’s light to enter the room. It is utilized in doors, windows, solar applications, and shelves, among other things. It is also utilized in the subsequent processing of other glass kinds.

• Tinted Glass:

Body-tinted glass is a type of float glass that has tinting and solar-radiation absorption capabilities due to the addition of melted colorants.

Tinted glass is available in a variety of colors, including green, blue, bronze, brown, grey, and black. Because tinted glass lets less heat pass through, it also reduces the amount of light that comes in.

This type of float glass conserves energy, lowers heat penetration into buildings, and creates an eye-catching aesthetic impact. 

• Textured or Patterned Glass:

Textured glass is a decorative and translucent glass with textures or patterns on one face to diffuse light and obstruct visibility.

The texture or pattern is created by passing heated glass over rollers that have a negative imprint on the design. It is great for offering seclusion to the interiors of houses and is thus widely used in external and bathroom windows.

This type of float glass is also used as decorative glass for interior partitions, glass doors, windows, backsplashes, opaque glazing, and other applications.

• Wired Glass:

As the name implies, wired glass is a type of glass in which a wire mesh or grid is inlaid during the production process. The wire in the glass prevents it from shattering under stress.

This glass also resists thermal strains to some extent and is known as fire-rated glass. It is a low-cost glass that guards against the damaging effects of smoke and flame.

• Extra Clear Glass:

Because of the presence of iron, clear glass has a greenish color. Extra clear glass is a premium glass with very low iron content. Extra-clear glass has little color, allowing for a clear view through it.

It lets almost 97 percent of visible light through. Extra clear glass is used to make tabletops, in the showroom of jewelry, watches, crystal ware items, fine fabrics, art wares, aquariums, and other items for a sparkling display.
