Low-E glass refers to a low emissivity glass. It is made up of multiple layers of metallic and chemical coatings applied to the glass surface to reduce the emissivity ratio from 0.84 to less than 0.15, or even less than 0.03.
Single silver low-E, double silver low-E, and triple silver low-E are examples of low-emissivity glass with 1 layer, 2 layer, and 3 layer silver coatings, respectively. In comparison to soft-coated low-e glass, hard-coated low-e glass has a higher emissivity.
Low-E glass has a tiny coating that aids in the thermal efficiency of the window. The coating is extremely thin, colorless, and non-toxic.
